The book, "Unbroken" by Laura Hillenbrand, is an inspirational, brutal, and emotional book that shows what real courage, strength and self encouragement is like during war. The Author describes the pain that every soldier experiences whether it is physical or mental, there is a lot of pain. This leads to the emotional disorder for a prisoner during the war, being beaten and no freedom, seems like there is nothing left, that there is no such thing as hope and freedom any more. That is where there is the self encouragement, every person needs it, whether it be for a sport, a test in school, work, or at war, there needs to be that encouragement to get through it. This book taught me and influenced me in a way that it is hard to write, it taught me not to give up and keep that encouragement running through my veins, just the way Louis Zamperini did. In the book, prisoners would think about their families, friends, or what it is like back home to cope with the fact that they are imprisoned. For Zamperini, it was the quote his brother told him when Louis needed that encouragement to get through his childhood. "If you can take it, you can make it," this quote has influenced me the most, just like it did Louis and his family. Real strength comes from what's within not how much physical strength someone has to endure obstacles, because those kind of obstacles are small. The rough edges we endure that involve our inner strength, our mind, are the rough times that take the most courage and strength. This is probably the most important aspect I got out of this book, I don't necessarily believe it is the theme, but maybe the moral of this amazing novel. The theme would have to be, courage and never giving up. I will never forget the fact that in order to make it, you have to take it.
